It’s a statistical fact that people of color and the poor are more likely to live in America’s most polluted areas. Join SEEDR in growing the conversation.

Join us Tuesdays 4 pm Arzten Hall 18 (spring 2016)

About

SEEDR is a nonprofit Associated Students organization on Western Washington University's campus. We discuss and educate ourselves about current environmental justice and disaster risk reduction issues in our community and abroad. We hope to bring to light the connection between these two concepts, and their role in our community and others.

Activities

SEEDR holds weekly meetings for students to come and discuss environmental justice issues in and how we can bring awareness to the issues at hand. We also have monthly volunteering trips with local organizations in Bellingham and Washington state. In addition, we raise funds to help aid disasters in other communities in Washington and abroad.

Environmental Justice

Environmental justice is "the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, sex, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws regulations and policies"(U.S. Environmental Protection Agency).

Disaster Risk

"Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) aims to reduce the damage caused by natural hazards like earthquakes, floods, droughts and cyclones, through an ethic of prevention" (UN Office of Disaster Risk Reduction).
